Auburn, Ala.—Auburn junior Ty McCormack was name Southeastern Conference Men’s Runner of the Week, announced the league office Tuesday.
With his third place overall finish in the 8k run, McCormack, a native of Gainesville, Ga., was Auburn’s top finisher at the highly competitive Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational this past weekend. He also helped the men’s team claim a fifth place overall finish just five points behind third-place Virginia, who is ranked, 16th nationally. The men’s field featured 11 of 13 teams that are ranked in their respective regionals.
“This is a tremendous honor for Ty and is reflective in the hard work he has put in this season,” Auburn cross country coach Mark Carroll said. “He ran a very patient race at the Panorama Invite, moving up over the first 5k to 10th place and showed his strength over the last 3k to pass seven more runners to finish third. His performance on a very tough course, against tough competition, to finish in a time of 23:50 indicates he is ready to challenge for the SEC individual title on November 1.”
McCormack currently holds the SEC’s top men’s 8K time this season at 23:50.78, which also is his Auburn personal-best. He previously finished first at the Georgia State Invite, and third at the Mountain Dew Invite.
The Tigers will have two weeks off before returning to action Oct. 18 at the Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
