Auburn Cross Country set for Louisville Cross Country Classic
Sept. 28, 2017

AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn cross country will travel to Louisville, Ky., to participate in the 16th annual Louisville Cross Country Classic hosted by the Louisville Sports Commission at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park on Saturday.

“We are very excited for the meet this weekend in Louisville,” assistant cross country and track and field coach David Barnett said. “The last several weeks of training have been going well and it will be a great test for both of our teams. The races will feature several teams that are nationally ranked, and that’s the competition level that we are looking for as we prepare for SECs and beyond.”

The event is tabbed to be one of the largest meets in the nation in 2017 with over 3,000 athletes from 142 colleges slated to compete. A total of 42 men’s and 41 women’s teams currently ranked in the national polls (NCAA Div. I Regional and National, Div. II National, Div. III National and NAIA) will be in attendance. Men’s teams in attendance include No. 1 ranked and 2016 NCAA national champion Northern Arizona, followed by No. 7 Wisconsin, No. 12 Furman, No. 19 Middle Tennessee and No. 24 Virginia Tech.

No. 15 Boise State, No. 16 Wisconsin, No. 19 Minnesota and No. 29 Vanderbilt are among the women’s teams set to run the course.
