AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn Cross Country freshman Rachel Givens was named the Southeastern Conference Women’s Freshman Runner of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
With her second place overall finish in the 4k run, Givens, a native of Tallahassee, Fla., set a new personal best of 14:25.86 and helped the women’s team claim the overall team title at the Georgia State Invite in Hampton, Ga.
“Rachel had her best race of the season at the Georgia State Invite and finished strong to take second place,” Auburn cross country coach Mark Carroll said. “She has been getting stronger with every race and she is ready for some of our biggest meets in the coming weeks.”
Givens, a native of Tallahassee, Fla., previously finished in fourth place at the Trojan Invite and 13th at the Mountain Dew Invite.
The Tigers return to action Saturday as they travel to Charlottesville, Va. to compete in the Virginia-Panorama Farms Cross Country Invite.
