AUBURN, Ala.—Auburn freshman Veronica Eder was named the Southeastern Conference Women’s Freshman Runner of the Week, announced the league office Tuesday. A native of Doylestown, Pa., Eder helped the women’s team finish in a tie for first place at the Mountain Dew Invite in Gainesville, Fla., after she placed fourth in the 6K race in a time of 21:30.96. Eder’s 6K time is the top freshman mark over that distance in the SEC this season.

“Veronica has had a great start to her collegiate career,” Auburn cross country coach Mark Carroll said. “Her fourth-place performance at the Mountain Dew Invitational against strong SEC competition signals a bright future for this talented freshman.”

Competing on the course that will host the 2013 SEC Cross Country Championship in November, and facing five SEC teams at the meet, Eder was one of five Auburn runners that posted a personal best time and finished in the race’s top 25.

Fellow freshman Rachel Givens (21:56.05) finished 13th, while sophomores Kristin Sheehan (22:07.23) and Sage Blackwell (22:18.01) finished 15th and 21st, respectively. Senior Erica Kolakowski (22:20.44) finished 22nd to round out the Auburn scoring.

The Tigers return to action Friday as they travel to Hampton, Ga. to compete in the Georgia State Invite.
