The Auburn men's and women's cross country teams will return to action Saturday as they travel to Gainesville, Fla. to compete in the Mountain Dew Invite. The meet will be held at the Mark Bostick Golf Course which is the same course the Southeastern Conference Championships will be held at in early November. The men's 8K is set to begin at 6:55 a.m. CT, followed by the women's 6K at 7:30 a.m.
Joining the Tigers in competition this weekend will be 26 other schools as well in conference rivals Florida, LSU, South Carolina and Tennessee.
"The men have run well thus far and we hope to challenge Florida for the team title," Auburn Cross Country Coach Mark Carroll said. "Last year Florida won the women's league title, so our goal on the women's side is to compete well against the remaining SEC teams. It will be a challenging meet for us and we will know a lot more after this weekend of where we are at."
Both the men's and women's team are coming off solid performances in the season opener recording 13 overall personal bests times at the Trojan Invite two weeks ago. Junior Francis Hernandez recorded a new personal best, as well as his first career win for the Tigers at the Trojan Invite with a first-place finish of 16:10.62 in the 5k event.
"The training has gone really well for both teams since our first meet of the season. We had our final hard work out on Tuesday and everyone looked great, "said Carroll. "This meet will have five SEC teams competing, which is unusual for a meet this early, but it is where the conference meet will be run, so it's an opportunity to see the exact course that we will compete on later this season."
Following the Mountain Dew Invite, both teams will compete at the Georgia State Invite on Sept. 20.
