AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn men’s and women’s cross country teams will open the 2013 season Friday at the Trojan Invite in Troy, Ala. The meet will be held at Trojan Oaks golf course with the women’s 3k run will begin at 6 p.m. CT while the men’s 5k run will follow at 6:30 p.m.
Auburn has won the men’s team title at the Trojan Invite each of the last three seasons, while the Tiger women have captured the team title the last two years. On the men’s side, senior Hunter Hayes will look to defend his individual title from a year ago as he won last year’s 8K in 28:04.68.
“I always think it’s important to start the season on a positive note and get two strong teams out there this weekend,” Auburn Cross Country Coach Mark Carroll said. “If we can come away with two wins, and everybody feels good about it I think it’ll have been a successful weekend for us.”
Although the season hasn’t kicked off, Carroll is pleased with both teams’ fitness level after individual training over the summer.
“This past Saturday we had a great workout. It was one of my first times seeing the team together as a group workout and I was pleased at how fit everybody was, so that’s a very positive start from a training standpoint,” Carroll said.
After opening the season at Troy, the Tigers will travel to Gainesville, Fla. in two weeks to compete in the Mountain Dew Invite. For the latest news and updates on Auburn Cross Country, follow @AUtrack on Twitter.
