Auburn men's cross country predicted fifth in league by SEC Coaches

AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn men's cross country team has been predicted to finish fifth in the 2013 Southeastern Conference Cross Country Championships, as decided by a vote of the league's head coaches. The SEC on Wednesday released its 2013 Cross Country Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Auburn women were picked to finish 13th according to the league coaches.

The Tiger men return their top six runners from a year ago, including seniors Samuel Mueller, Niklas Buhner, Jason Miller and juniors Griffin Jaworski, Francis Hernandez and Kane Grimster. Buhner was 26th at last year's SEC meet, while Miller was 39th and Jaworski was 42nd, while helping Auburn to an eighth-place finish.

Ty McCormack, who was a 2011 All-ACC cross country runner, transferred from Clemson to Auburn and will add to the Tigers men's depth.

The Auburn women's team will be led by underclassmen as sophomores Sage Blackwell, Taylor Duncan and Kristin Sheehan. Auburn cross country coach Mark Carroll, now in his fifth season, has four freshmen, Rachel Givens, Veronica Eder, Claire Kennedy, and Emily Stevens that will add depth.

The Arkansas men were a unanimous pick to win the 2013 SEC Championship, while the Razorback women were voted to win the women's league title.

Points for the men's poll were awarded on a 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12 basis while the women's poll was awarded on a 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12-13 basis. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own teams.

The 2013 SEC Cross Country Championships are slated to take place Friday, Nov. 1 at Mark Bostick Golf Course in Gainesville, Fla.

Auburn opens the 2013 season on August 30 at the Trojan Invite in Troy, Ala.
