Tigers at the 2014 Commonwealth Games

AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn track and field program was well represented at the Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Scotland, as a total of 11 Tigers competed at the Commonwealth Games. The international, multi-sport event involving 53 nations across the globe dates back to 1930, and is the third-largest sporting event in the world behind the Summer Olympics and Asian Games.

Representing the Bahamas, Jamaica, Nigeria and Trinidad and Tobago, former Tigers Ty Akins, Cache Armbrister, Krystal Bodie, Marc Burns, Sheniqua Ferguson, Leevan Sands, Kai Selvon, Nivea Smith, Kerron Stewart and Donald Thomas along with current Tiger, Teray Smith, made apperances at the Commonwealth Games.

Burns was the second leg for the bronze-winning Trinidad and Tobago relay team, finishing with a time of 38.10, just .08 seconds behind England. Trinidad and Tobago qualified for the final with a top time of 38.33.

Advancing to the semifinals of the 200m, Smith ran a season-best time of 23.22 during the semis, but was unable to qualify for the finals.Smith was the anchor for the Bahamian relay team, which finished sixth at 44.25.

The rising sophomore was the anchor leg for the Bahams, finishing fifth in the 4x100m relay with a time of 38.52. Smith advanced to the semifinals of the 200m after placing runner-up in his heat at 20.91.

Stewart was the first leg of the Jamaican relay team to capture the gold medal with a time of 41.83, besting Nigeria by over a second. Stewart also earned a bronze medal in the 100m where she ran an 11.07.
