AUBURN, Ala. -
Auburn rising sophomore Marshay Ryan will represent the United States, July 22-27, when she participates in the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. Ryan qualified for the USA roster after finishing second this past weekend in the triple jump at the U.S. Junior Outdoor Championships also in Eugene.
"We're very proud of Marshay and look forward to her representing not only her country, but Auburn at the World Junior Championships later this month," Auburn head coach Ralph Spry said. "Marshay had a tremendous freshman season and her performance at the U.S. Juniors is another sign of what type of competitor she is. The future is very bright for Marshay and can't wait to see her wear the red, white and blue."
A native of Chambersburg, Pa., Ryan grabbed second place with a jump of 43-3 (13.18m), just shy of her PR mark of 43-3.75 (13.20m) set at the SEC Outdoor Championships in May where she also finished second. She exceeded the World Junior qualifying standard of 12.90m.
Ryan is one of 36 collegians and just one of seven from the Southeastern Conference that will represent the United States at the World Junior Championships. The preliminary round of the women's triple jump at the IAFF World Junior Championships will be contested on July 24 at 2:20 p.m. CT, with the finals on July 26 at 5:30 p.m. CT.
