DES MOINES, Iowa - Eleven different athletes with various ties to the Auburn track and field program will compete in the USA Track and Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa beginning Wednesday.
Seniors Harry Adams and Marcus Rowland will both run the 100 meters which is slated for 6:50 p.m. on Thursday evening. Rowland will also come back for the 200 meters on Saturday at 2:40 p.m.
Another senior, high jumper Maya Pressley, will jump for a spot at the 2013 World Athletics Championships in Moscow on Saturday at 2:45 p.m.
Former Auburn hurdler Ty Akins will compete in the men's 110m hurdles, while another former Tiger, Reuben McCoy, is entered in the men's 400m hurdles. In the men's shot put, both Cory Martin and Eric Werskey will compete for spots in Russia.
On the women's side, 2009 NCAA 400m Champion Joanna Atkins is competing in the quarter-mile event. Additionally, Auburn native and four-time Olympian Aretha Thurmond will throw in the women's discus.
In addition to the senior championships, USA Track and Field will also host the junior event featuring a pair of Auburn signees. Sprinter SheKara Martin will run in both the girl's 100 and 200 meters. Fellow signee Carly Schmidt will compete in the girl's pole vault.
