AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn men's and women's track team will open the 2014 outdoor season as the Tigers will send a group to the 87th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays and another group to the Yellow Jacket Invitational.
"We're excited to get the outdoor season started this weekend," Auburn head coach Ralph Spry said. "We've had good preparation in the weight room and on the track, so this will be a good opportunity for our athletes to compete and give us a starting point to work on moving forward. We will be resting some of our key people this weekend, but will have a lot of athletes competing in open events. We have a young team that is eager to compete, break the ice and see where we're at."
The Auburn women's team is coming off a successful indoor season in which the team finished 12th at the NCAA Indoor Championships as junior Valentina Muzaric and freshman Marshay Ryan finished second in the shot put and triple jump, respectively.
Auburn will send four individual athletes to the Texas Relays along two relay teams. Senior Keenan Brock will run in the 100 meter dash, and Torrey Campbell and Gary Ford will compete in the 110 meter hurdles. Sophomore Parker Shearer, who finished third at the 2014 SEC Indoors in the Heptathlon, will participate in the decathlon.
Auburn will send the majority of its men's and women's team to the Yellow Jacket Invitational which begins on Friday at the George C. Griffin Track in Atlanta, Ga.
The Tigers return three athletes who competed at the 2013 NCAA Indoor Championships in senior Keenan Brock, who was a member of the 4x100 that finished third, senior Marcus Popenfoose, who placed 16th in the shot put and junior Valentina Muzaric, who finished 7th in the shot put.
