AUBURN, Ala. - Auburn juniors Valentina Muzaric and Samantha Scarlett along with freshman Marshay Ryan will represent Auburn at the 2014 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships March 14-15 at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
"The NCAA is a tough meet," head coach Ralph Spry said. "We have 300 schools that compete in this sport and only the top 16 in each event make it to the championship. We have three women that are all qualified. It should be fun as all three of our athletes had a great indoor season. All three are healthy so I am excited about they will be able to do down the stretch."
Scarlett is the 16th seed in the 60 meter hurdles semifinals to be held on Friday at 7:30 pm CT. The Kingston, Jamaica native qualified for the NCAA Championships after running a personal best 8.21 in the event at the SEC Indoor Championships to finish fourth. Scarlett has ran five races that rank in the top-10 in Auburn history in the event.
On Saturday, Muzaric and Ryan will compete in the shot put and triple jump, respectively. Muzaric broke her own school record in the shot put at the SEC Indoor Championships with a throw of 56-1.25/17.10m to finish second and eighth in the nation.
Ryan enters the meet as the highest seeded freshman in the triple jump and sixth overall. Ryan placed fourth at the SEC Championships with a personal best distance of 43-5.25/13.24m.
