AUBURN, Ala. – The Auburn track and field team opens the 2017 indoor season this Friday as it competes at the Commodore Invitational on the Vanderbilt campus in Nashville. The Tigers will participate in the two-day event, which will be held at the Vanderbilt Student Recreation Center.
“We had a good fall training season and we're looking forward to opening up the 2017 season,” said head coach Ralph Spry. "Our main focus this weekend will be to go out and compete and establish a starting point to see where we are. Indoors is a short season, so it's important to get a good start.”
The men’s team returns 2016 Olympian Teray Smith, along with fellow 2016 outdoor All-Americans Kahlil Henderson, Joshua Burks, Randall Ceneus and Wellington Zaza. Joining them will be 16 returning letter winners and 13 newcomers.
The women’s squad returns 30 letter winners from last season including seniors Marshay Ryan and Veronica Eder. Eder earned First Team Cross Country All-SEC honors after finishing fourth at the 2016 SEC Cross Country Championships, while Ryan earned Second Team All-American honors in the triple jump during the 2016 indoor season.
The meet will begin at 4 p.m. CT and live results for the meet can be found online at www.cfpitiming.com.
