AUBURN, Ala. – In the final regular-season race before the SEC Championships, the Auburn cross country women’s squad finished fifth, while the men finished sixth at the Crimson Classic on Friday.
“With two weeks until the SEC Championships, it was good to have strong performances from everyone today,” Auburn head coach Mark Carrol said. “We had three personal bests today. Veronica (Eder) has really trained hard this season and it’s shown all season long. We are going to keep training hard in preparation for SEC's.”
Senior Veronica Eder posted her fifth-straight top five finish of the season, finishing second in the women’s 6k with a personal best 20:20.10. Junior Anna Nelson was Auburn’s second scorer, finishing with a personal best time of 21:43.3, while Emily Stevens finished 44th in 21:46.4.
Junior Kevin Wyss once again paced the men’s squad, finishing 11th with a time of 24:57.6 in the men’s 8k. Wesley Pectol finished 26th (25:32.3), while Wesley Curles finished 31st (25:38.6). Mitchell Gomez posted a 25:44.7 to finish 40th and Coleman Churitch rounded out the scoring for Auburn, finishing 45th (25:51.4).
The Auburn cross country team will return to action on Oct. 28th as it travels to Fayetteville, Ark. for the 2016 SEC Championships.
