Auburn Cross Country Teams Claim Georgia State Invite Titles
Ty McCormack

Sept. 20, 2013

Hampton, Ga.--The Auburn men's and women's cross country each won team titles at the Georgia State Invite at the Nash Farm Battlefield Park Friday. Junior Ty McCormack won the men's 8K race, while Niklas Buhner claimed second place. On the women's side, Rachel Givens and Veronica Eder were second and third, respectfully.

"It was a very good performance today for our teams in tough conditions," Auburn cross country coach Mark Carroll said. "It was warm and a very rolling course, but both teams handled it well. I'm proud of their efforts. We're looking forward to competing next week against very good competition in Virginia."

McCormack won in a time of 25:20.64, while Buhner finished in 25:27.93. Samuel Mueller was the Tigers other top 10 finisher, taking sixth in 26:17.27. Andrew Scott (27:44.49) was 13th and Reid McClenny (27:58.84) took 14th to round out Auburn's scoring.

The win was the second consecutive team title for the women, who tied for first at the Mountain Dew Invite last week. The men also claimed their second team title of the season after winning the Trojan Invite two weeks ago.

Givens finished the 4K women's race in 14:25.86, while Eder crossed the finish line in 14:30.40. Chattanooga's Teghan Henderson won the women's race, finishing 18 seconds ahead of Givens.

Erika Kolakowski was sixth for the Tiger women in 14:55.38, while Kristin Sheehan (15:18.26), Sage Blackwell (15:22.23) and Emily Stevens (15:23.99) finished consecutively in 11th, 12th and 13th place.
