Four earn All-American honors on day two of NCAA Championships
June 8, 2017

AUBURN, Ala. – Four Auburn athletes earned All-American honors during the second day of the 2017 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at historic Hayward Field on Thursday. Auburn senior Sashel Brown led the way with a 10th place finish in the 400 meter hurdles.

“We didn’t have as good of a day today as we would have liked,” Auburn head coach Ralph Spry said. “After the 4x100 meters, we lost a lot of momentum. Our girls went out and competed hard, but it was an uphill battle after losing so much momentum. We still have two that can score for us on Saturday. We just need to shake this off and come out tomorrow ready to compete again.”

A senior from Jamaica, Brown earned Second Team All-American honors after running 57.78 in the 400 meter hurdles to finish tenth overall.

Senior Veronica Eder picked up her first All-American honors as she finished 14th in the women’s 10,000 meters. The Pennsylvania native ran a 33:51.86.

Sophomore Jonielle Smith earned Honorable Mention All-American honors after running 11.51 to 20th overall in the women’s 100 meters.

In the women’s 200 meters, sophomore Jenae Ambrose brought home honorable mention All-American honors with a 20th place finish. The Bahamas native finished in 23.62

The NCAA Outdoor Track and Field men’s finals will kick off tomorrow with the 4x100 meter relay at 7:32 p.m. CT. The Tigers have four individuals and two relays in finals.
