AUBURN, Ala. – Christopher Stone broke a 12 year old Auburn freshman record in the decathlon with 7,300 points on Thursday at the 90th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas. His mark also ranks fourth all-time on Auburn’s outdoor performers list.
Stone got things started early with strong marks on day one. In the 100 meter, Stone ran an 11.28 to score 799 points and then followed up with a 22-0.75/6.72m in the long jump. In the shot put, Stone threw 40-2.25/12.25m for 622 points. He finished seventh in the high jump with a strong 6-5.5/1.97m and then wrapped up the first day with a personal best time of 51.96 in the 400m.
The Pennsylvania native got things started on day two with a 15.23 in the 110 meter hurdles and then followed up with a 121-0/36.89m in the discus. The bulk of his points came in the pole vault, where the freshman vaulted 15-9/4.80m to tie for fourth among the field.
Stone kept the momentum in the javelin with a huge personal best throw of 206-11/63.06m, which also ranks ninth all-time on Auburn’s outdoor performers list.
In the 1500m, Stone finished with a 4:57.90 to score 572 points and break the freshman record, previously set by Nathon Boyd in 1995.
Veronica Eder and Redatu Semeon will compete in the Stanford Invitational tomorrow night in Stanford, Calif. Semeon will lead things off in the 3000 meter steeple at 8 p.m. CT, with Eder competing in the women’s 10,000 meter invitational at 10:56 p.m.
