Kylee Carter leads Auburn at FSU Relays
March 24, 2017

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Sophomore Kylee Carter broke her own school record in the javelin as Auburn opened the 2017 outdoor season at the Florida State Relays in Tallahassee, Fla. on Friday. The Tigers posted eight event wins and seven personal bests on the day.

“I was very pleased with the first meet of the outdoor season,” Auburn head coach Ralph Spry said. “We had eight event wins on the day in a very tough meet. I was pleased with the effort and level at which we competed. We will look to continue to build and improve so we can have another strong meet next week in Texas.”

Carter threw a 175-1/53.37m on her third throw of the day, surpassing her school record set last season as a freshman at the War Eagle Invitational. Her mark currently ranks as the fourth best throw in the nation.

Freshman Nathon Allen made his first appearance as an Auburn Tiger and won the 400 meter with a time of 46.63, which is currently fifth in the nation.

Senior Jessie Johnson won the women’s pole vault with a vault of 13-6.5/4.13m. The three-time All-American holds the school record in the event, set last season and currently ranks fifth in the nation.

Competing in two events, Mark Rubalcaba won the long jump with a personal best mark of 24-7/7.49m and finished sixth in the triple jump with a personal best 48-2.5/14.69m. Jakayla Hand won the women’s triple jump, crushing her previous personal best with a jump of 42-4.75/12.92m, which ranks sixth in Auburn history.

Competing in the men’s 5000m, Wesley Curles posted a time of 14:32.48 to win the event. Kevin Wyss finished third in the event with a personal best 14:36.05.

The women finished second in the meet with 134 points on the day, while the men finished with 100.5 points to finish third.

The Tigers will return to action next weekend for the Texas Relays. The meet begins March 29 and runs through April 1. Auburn will return home on April 7-8 to host the Tiger Track Classic.
