AUBURN, Ala. - For the third straight year Auburn will be represented at the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Nov. 21 in Terre Haute, Ind., by senior Angela Homan. Homan qualified for the championships by finishing second at the NCAA South Regional on Nov. 12 in Gainesville, Fla. The women's 6K is slated for 12:15 p.m. at the LaVern Gibson Course at the Wabash Valley Family Sports Center.
In her past two trips to the championships, Homan finished 40th in 2003 and ninth in 2004. A major advantage for Homan as she maneuvers through the 407-person field will be her familiarity of the LaVern Gibson Course, which also hosted the 2004 NCAA Championships.
The women's race will be a 6K, which plays right into Homan's strength. Of the 13 6K races Homan has participated in, she has won six times and has placed in the top 10 in 10 of 13 races.
On Thursday, Homan was tapped as the SEC Female Athlete of the Year for the third straight year. It is only the second time in SEC history that an athlete - male or female - has received the honor three times.
On the year, Homan has two wins and four top 5s in five meets. She has placed in the top 10 in every race.
