LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Auburn cross country ventures outside the state of Alabama and to the site of the 2012 NCAA Cross Country championships on Saturday for the Greater Louisville Classic hosted by the University of Louisville at E.P. 'Tom' Sawyer State Park.
“We are excited to go to Louisville,” Auburn cross country coach Mark Carroll said. “The pre-NCAA meet is at the same site in a couple of weeks, but this meet is expected to be more competitive. There are a lot of really good teams, a lot of ranked teams, here this weekend. This will be our first big test. Up until this point, we’ve had three smaller, lower key meets. This week we will see some stiffer competition, but training is going well and there is no reason why we can’t perform well this weekend.”
Both the Auburn men and women have been victorious in their first three meets of the season, but will be facing ranked opponents for the first time in 2012.
“There are a lot of national and regionally ranked teams that will be here this weekend,” Carroll said. “We are looking forward to competing against those teams, especially the ranked teams from our region.”
The men will run an 8k beginning at 9:30 a.m., while the women will compete in a 5k at 10:15 a.m. For the latest on Auburn cross country, follow @AUTrack on Twitter.
