AUBURN - The Auburn men's track and field program was one of 90 programs nationally to earn All-Academic status as announced by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association on Wednesday.
Auburn is one of just two SEC programs to earn the prestigious distinction. South Carolina is the other league program that was honored.
"It is really an honor to receive this team academic award," head coach Ralph Spry said. "Obviously, in college athletics you want to win, but it's an even better pleasure to have student-athletes come in and excel in both areas. At the end of the day the goal is to graduate student-athletes and send them out to succeed in life. I'm really excited that things are headed in the right direction academically."
The Tigers posted a team grade point average (GPA) of 3.01 through the Spring 2011 semester. In order to receive All-Academic status from the USTFCCA a program must boast a team GPA of 3.0 or better.
