WALNUT, Calif. - Three members of the Auburn men's track and field team competed late Friday night at the Mt. SAC Relays, and the Tigers finished the night with two more regional qualifying marks.

Sophomores Felix Kiboiywo and Jean-Pierre Weerts both ran the 5000m, with Weerts running first in the college and university division and Kiboiywo running later in the Invitational field.

Weerts clocked a time of 13:55.80 to finish sixth in his race, easily beating the regional qualifying mark of 14:12. Kiboiywo later topped that performance with a time of 13:53.54, finishing 20th in the Invitational race.

Their marks rank Kiboiywo and Weerts fifth and sixth, respectively, in Auburn history in the 5000m outdoors.

Also competing for Auburn was sophomore Scott Novack, who placed 12th in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:12.04 but was not able to top his previous regaional qualifying mark in that event.

The Tigers finished the meet with their five runners in attendance posting four new regional qualifying marks and cracking the Auburn all-time Top 10 lists in all four cases.

"It was a brilliant meet for us," said Auburn assistant coach Peter Watson. "I'm all smiles."

The rest of the Tiger squad will compete Saturday at the LSU Alumni Gold meet in Baton Rouge, La.
