NASSAU, Bahamas – Auburn assistant head coach Henry Rolle has been tabbed to head up the coaching staff that will assemble the relay teams for the Bahamas and the 2012 Olympic Games in London as announced by the Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations (BAAA) last week.
"The main focus is to get as many teams was we can to London where we will be in a better situation to win medals,” Rolle told the Nassau Guardian last week. “Obviously everyone knows about the Golden Girls and the men's 4x400 meters. We will also try to qualify the men's 4x100m and the women's 4x400m.
“We have to start at some point and as time progresses individuals will be called upon to try and qualify for these teams.”
Rolle will head the coaching staff which includes several club coaches for the Bahamas. He will be responsible for scheduling meets, organizing training and ensuring that selected athletes are in place to compete.
Thus far, the men's 4x400m team is the only Bahamian squad that has qualified for the Olympics that will be held in London from July 27-August 12.
Rolle was named the 2008 BAAA Coach of the Year after he guided three pupils to medals at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. He has previously served as coach with the Bahamian national team for the 2004 games in Athens.
