BIRMINGHAM – Five members of the Auburn track and field team, including SEC shot put champion Stephen Saenz, earned All-SEC honors at last weekend’s SEC Indoor Championships, the conference office announced on Friday.

Saenz was named first team All-SEC for his championship performance in the men’s shot put. The junior recorded a long throw of 64-7.75 (19.70m). The mark is a season high for the now three-time SEC champion and it ranks fourth in the NCAA this season. His throw was nearly two feet ahead of second place Caleb Whitener from Georgia (62-9.25).

Senior sprinter Marcus Rowland earned second team honors for his runner-up performance in the men’s 60 meters. The 2010 champion, Rowland placed second in 6.63 seconds behind Missouri’s Markesh Woodson (6.60).

Additionally, three Auburn freshmen earned All-Freshman team nods thanks to their performances at the indoor championships. Thrower Valentina Muzaric (shot put), pole vaulter Jessie Johnson and sprinter Samantha Scarlett (60m hurdles) were all honored by the SEC.
