FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Auburn multi-event athletes Parker Shearer and Coren Crompton are both in scoring position after one day of competition in the heptathlon at the 2013 SEC Indoor Championships hosted by the University of Arkansas.
The freshman Shearer stands in seventh place overall with 2810 points following the first day of competition. Shearer recorded new PRs in three events, with the highlight being a third-place finish in the high jump after he cleared the bar at 1.95m.
Crompton, a sophomore, is one spot behind his teammate in eighth place with a total of 2,720 points after four events. The transfer from Troy set new personal bests in all four events on Friday, including a fifth-place finish in the high jump with clearance at 1.92m.
Georgia’s Garrett Scantling leads the heptathlon with 3,304 points with four events remaining.
The top eight finishers in the event earn points in the SEC Indoor Championships standings.
The final four events are scheduled for Saturday. Additionally, other action begins with the men’s weight throw at 10 a.m. and continuing into the evening.
