MEN'S SWIMMING POST FAST TIMES AT WAR EAGLE INVITATIONAL-November 3, 2001

AUBURN, Ala.-Several swimmers from the Tigers varsity team posted fast times at the local War Eagle Invitational. Kevin Clements has won the most events and posted several top times for Auburn.

Kevin Clements started the meet out with two victories on Friday night in the 500 free and the 400 IM. He posted a time of 4:29.90 in the 500 freestyle. Clements time of 3:50.52 in the 400 IM is the fastest in the Nation this year. Teammate James Galloway posted the second fastest time in the country in that event with a 4:30.06.

The meet also saw strong swims from Pat Calhoun and Mark Gangloff in the 100 breaststroke. Calhoun's time of 56.50 earned him first while second place finisher, Gangloff went 56.99.

Auburn's backstrokers also had good splits as they took the top four places of the meet in the 100 backstroke. Kirk Hampleman (50.17) won the event, while Jon Karr placed second (51.57). Bryce Hunt and Scott Talbot rounded out the field with a third (52.19) and fourth (52.91) place finish respectively.

The meet also had another spectacular swim as special guest, Frank Esposito, swam the 200 fly (1:43.22). Esposito, from the French Riviera, will be training with the Tigers for a month. He is ranked third in the world in the 200-meter butterfly.

The final day of the War Eagle Invitational is Sunday, November 4, 2001 at the James E. Martin Aquatic Center.
