Auburn Diving Invitational Set To Begin Thursday
Dec. 17, 2008
AUBURN - Auburn's divers return to action this week with the Auburn Diving Invitational at the James E. Martin Aquatic Center. The Tigers will welcome divers from Alabama and LSU to the Plains for the three-day meet. "My whole concept of this meet was to give our athletes and the participating teams a little higher level of training and competition focus before the holiday break," said Auburn diving coach Jeff Shaffer. "A lot of schools, just like Auburn, have just finished finals and sometimes the kids look at that as representing the end of the semester, but we still have a week of training left. This allows us to finish the semester with a high level of focus and give us something to build on in the second half of the season." Auburn's men's team features an experienced trio of senior Scott Morgan along with junior All-Americans Kelly Marx and Dan Mazzaferro. New to the Tiger squad this season is freshman Adam Godzinski. The AU women's team is led by a strong core of freshmen in Anna Aguero, Mary Catherine Cochran, Vanessa Dantin, Laura Mulqueen and Mackenzie Wickliffe. Sophomore Courtney Brown is Auburn's lone returning diver from last season. Action in the meet begins at 11 a.m., Thursday at the James E. Martin Aquatic Center. Thursday's events will include the men's 1-meter diving and the women's 3-meter while Friday's will be the men's 3-meter and women's 1-meter. Both men and women will compete on the platform on Saturday with action beginning at 10 a.m.
Admission is free to all three sessions. |
