AUBURN - Auburn's divers will wrap up the 2012 fall season this week as they host the Auburn Diving Invitational, which runs Monday through Wednesday at the James E. Martin Aquatic Center. Admission is free all three days.
On Monday and Tuesday, preliminaries will begin at 11 a.m. each day with finals taking place at 5 p.m. Men's 1-meter and women's 3-meter will take place Monday, and the groups will switch boards for Tuesday's competition. Wednesday's platform event will be a one-list final beginning at 11 a.m.
Auburn will compete against Alabama, LSU and Georgia Tech over the three-day meet.
Despite a young team with no seniors and just one junior, Auburn's men and women have performed well throughout the 2012-13 season thus far. Five men's divers and two women's divers have already earned NCAA Zone qualifying scores in at least one event, and three Tiger divers have earned event wins on the year.
The men's squad is led by junior John Santeiu, who has won three times this season and scored in all three events at last year's SEC Championships. Sophomore Fraser McKean, who won the 1-meter event against LSU, has also performed well, as has fellow sophomore Michael Beran. Freshmen Andrew Laing, Justin Youtsey and Joel Bierwert help provide depth for the Auburn men.
On the women's side, sophomores Cinzia Calabretta and Shanna Schuelein have earned NCAA Zone qualifying scores in both springboard events, and both have posted career-best scores in at least one event this year. The Tigers have three freshmen in Carly Scheper, Morgan Mullins and Ashley Roberson.
