Dec. 8, 2009
AUBURN, Ala. - Senior Kelly Marx was honored by the Southeastern Conference this week, being named SEC Male Diver of the Week after his performances at the Georgia Invitational this past weekend. "This is a great honor for Kelly and it reflects on how hard he has worked so far this year," Jeff Shaffer, head diving coach, said. "He is having a very special senior year already and his performance at the Georgia Invitational reflects on where he is at and where his goals are going this year." Marx recorded two first-place finishes on the weekend for Auburn. On Saturday, the Overland Park, Kan., native put together his best performance on the one-meter this season, taking first with a NCAA Zone score of 375.45. On Sunday, Marx picked up another first-place finish, winning the 10-meter platform title with a score of 399.40. The Auburn diving team continues competition at the Georgia Invite and then heads to Tuscaloosa for the Alabama Diving Invitational Dec. 17-19. The entire squad returns to competition Jan. 7 when the Tigers return to Austin for a dual meet against Texas.
