AUBURN - Following his performance in last weekend's 163-136 win over ninth-ranked Georgia, Auburn senior Matt Targett was named the Southeastern Conference's Swimmer of the Week for the second time this season, the league announced Tuesday.

A native of Hawthorn, Victoria, Australia, Targett picked up four wins in the season-opening dual meet against the Bulldogs. Along with the wins, Targett also set or helped set three NCAA provisional-qualifying times.

He started off with a victory in the 50 free with a time of 19.73, a mark that ties his season-best and ranks as the fastest in the nation. Targett followed that up with a time of 47.92 in the 100 butterfly, a mark that ranks second in the nation, to pick up his second individual win.

Swimming on both of Auburn's relays, Targett helped the Tigers to wins and B cut times. He swam anchor on the 400 free relay, clocking a 42.00 split to help the team to a time of 2:56.77. His split time was the fastest in the event by more than two second and the team time ranks as the fastest in the nation.

Targett also swam the butterfly leg on Auburn's winning 200 medley relay team, clocking a 20.39 split to help the team to a time of 1:28.03. The team time also currently ranks as the fastest in the nation.

The No. 7-ranked Auburn swimming and diving teams return to action this week with a pair of meets. The swimmers travel to in-state rival Alabama for a long course meet on Friday and Saturday while the divers will spend Friday-Sunday at the Georgia Tech Diving Invitational.
