    Auburn Hosts LSU And Notre Dame Friday Home Opener

    AUBURN, Ala. - The Auburn swimming and diving team opens its home schedule Friday as the squad welcomes SEC rival LSU to the James E. Martin Aquatics Center for a 3 p.m. meet. The Auburn women will face both LSU and Notre Dame that day in a tri-meet.

    "We're very excited to finally compete in our home pool and are anxious to see what we can do against LSU and Notre Dame," head coach Brett Hawke said. "With this being our last team competition until December, we are looking forward to this meet and hope to get strong performance from our student-athletes."

    2010-11 AUBURN SQUAD
    The Auburn women are comprised of four seniors, seven juniors, eight sophomores and five freshmen. Captains for the team are senior Erica Meissner and juniors Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace and Vennie Dantin. Also providing strong leadership this season are the other three seniors in Caitlin Geary, Micah Martindale and Melanie Roberts.

    The Auburn men boast seven seniors, four juniors, eight sophomores and 11 freshmen. Seniors Dan Mazzaferro, Robert Looney and Kohlton Norys lead the way as team captains, while classmates Adam Brown, Adam Klein, Andrew Mitchell and Jared White will also be expected to lead the group to its 15th-consecutive SEC title.

     

     

    LSU TIGERS - WOMEN
    The Tiger women finished the 2010 season with a seventh-place finish at the 2010 SEC Championships. The squad returns four All-Americans in senior Jane Trepp, sophomore Amanda Kendall and juniors Morgan McGee and Samantha Goates as well as 2010 SEC Female Freshman Diver of the Year Rebecca St. Germain. Trepp was a finalist in all three of her races at last year's SEC meet, while Kendall earned a pair of All-America honors in relay events last season. McGee and Goates each captured a pair of All-America honors in relays as well.

    LSU TIGERS - MEN
    The LSU men come to Auburn after finishing 29th at the 2010 NCAA Championships and seventh at the 2010 SEC Championships. The Tigers are led by five seniors, including eight-time All-American Hannes Heyl. Sophomore Andrei Tuomola and senior James Meyers also return as All-Americans this season. Junior Brian Gemberling is set to lead the diving core for the Tigers.

    NOTRE DAME - WOMEN
    The Notre Dame Fighting Irish women's swimming and diving team is coming off its 14th-consecutive BIG EAST title and look to continue its streak at the end of the 2011 season. The team is led by seniors Amywren Miller and Samantha Maxwell. The pair was the team's lone All-Americans. Maxwell is the reigning BIG EAST Swimmer of the Year, taking both breaststroke titles at the meet. Miller finished eighth in the 50 free at the NCAA meet, breaking her own school record.

    UP NEXT
    The Auburn diving core will travel to the Georgia Tech Diving Invitational, Nov. 19-21, in Atlanta. The entire team is set to return to competition in December as the Tigers will travel to Athens, Ga., for the Georgia Invitational, Dec. 3-5.
