Following a stellar performance in the Tigers' season-opening win over Arkansas, Auburn senior diver Vennie Dantin
was named the SEC's Female Diver of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Dantin, a four-time All-American from Conroe, Texas, earned victories on both boards in the Tigers' 142.5-100.5 home victory over the Razorbacks last Wednesday, earning NCAA Zone qualifying scores in each event. Her score of 301.20 on the 1-meter board was a full 31 points better than her nearest competitor. She then took the win on the 3-meter board with a score of 338.55 to outpace the rest of the field by 23 points.
Today's honor marks the first SEC weekly award for Dantin. She was joined by LSU's Sarah Haley (Female Swimmer of the Week), Florida's Matt Elliott (Male Freshman of the Week) and LSU's Alex Bettridge (Female Freshman of the Week) in the weekly league honors.
The Tigers will be back in action Friday, Oct. 21, as the men's and women's teams split up for a pair of dual meets. The Auburn men will open their season with an SEC showdown at LSU, and the Tiger women will head to South Bend, Ind., to face Notre Dame.
