    Cielo Wins 50 Fly On First Day Of 2010 Pan Pacs

    AUBURN, Ala. - Former Auburn swimmer Cesar Cielo posted the world's fastest time this year and took the gold in the 50 fly Wednesday night at the 2010 Mutual of Omaha Pan Pacific Championships held in Irvine, Calif., at the William Woollet Jr. Aquatics Center.

    Cielo captured first in the 50 fly with a time of 23.03, setting a new Pan Pacific meet record. He qualified third for the finals following the morning preliminary session with a time of 23.48. Former Tiger Tyler McGill swam in the consolation final of the 50 fly and finished 11th in 24.09.

    Rising sophomore Hannah Riordan, competing for Canada, swam in the women's 100 back. The Cornwall, Ontario, product finished 25th with a time of 1:04.19.

    Competition continues Thursday with preliminaries and finals of the women's and men's 100 free, 100 breast, 400 IM, 50 back and 800 free.
