Photo Gallery: Cesar Cielo And Kirsty Coventry Earn Olympic Gold
Aug. 16, 2008 BEIJING, China - In a historic night for Auburn swimming, two former Tigers earned gold medals Friday at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China. Kirsty Coventry shattered the world record in the 200-meter backstroke as she swam to her second career gold medal while Cesar Cielo set a new Olympic record, touching in just two-hundredths of a second off the world record, in the 50-meter freestyle. In another Auburn first at the Games, former Tigers went gold-silver in the 200m backstroke as Huntsville, Ala., native Margaret Hoelzer finished behind Coventry for her first silver medal.
