A Day In The Life Of Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace

AUBURN - With just 50 days until the opening ceremonies of the 2012 London Olympics, AuburnTigers.com is excited to roll out the first of several features on Auburn's Olympic athletes.

Today's video chronicles a day in the life of senior swimmer Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace, who will be competing in her second Olympics for her native Bahamas. One of the top collegiate sprinters of all-time, Vanderpool-Wallace finished her Auburn career as a 25-time All-American, 14-time Southeastern Conference champion, and a three-time NCAA Champion. She holds or shares six Auburn school records, two SEC records, and the NCAA and U.S. Open record in the 100-yard freestyle. She is also one of two women in history, along with 14-time Olympic medalist Natalie Coughlin, to break the 47-second barrier in the 100-yard freestyle (46.61).

Vanderpool-Wallace seeks to become the first Bahamian swimmer to advance to the semifinals at the Olympics. She qualified for the 2012 Olympics with her times in the 50 free (24.79) and 100 free (54.58) at the 2011 World Championships, where she finished seventh and 10th, respectively.

As of today, four current Auburn student-athletes and seven Auburn swimming alumni have qualified for the 2012 London Olympics, and head coach Brett Hawke will coach the Bahamas team. In addition, 38 swimmers and divers with Auburn ties are slated to compete in the U.S. Olympic Trials. The Olympic Diving Trials run June 17-24 in Federal Way, Wash., and the Olympic Swimming Trials run June 25-July 2 in Omaha, Neb.
