Auburn Swimmers Compete At Trials-Qualifying Meets In Charlotte And Omaha

AUBURN - Seven Auburn swimmers were in action Thursday in the opening nights of the Charlotte UltraSwim and the Omaha Swimvitational - two of the final opportunities to qualify for the 2008 Olympic Trials in Omaha, Neb.

Rising junior Maggie Bird posted the top finish of the night in Omaha, finishing third in the 1500m freestyle with a time of 16:51.91. Rising sophomore Micah Martindale followed in seventh with a time of 17:02.71.

Rising sophomore Robert Looney represented Auburn in the men's 800m freestyle, clocking an 8:17.13 to finish fifth in the race.

Across the country in the Charlotte Ultraswim, siring senior Julianne McLane led the way in 12th with a time of 8:57.31, followed by Chelsea Haser in 15th (8:57.48) and Blakeley Bunch in 34th (9:12.50).

Rising junior Will Dove rounded out the Auburn representation, touching in with a time of 16:01.84 in the 1500m free to finish 15th.
