Ciarla Finishes Fourth to Close Out Nationals

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Auburn alum Aaron Ciarla recorded a time of 22.87 in the championship finals of the 50m freestyle, finishing fourth as competition concluded at the ConocoPhilips Spring National Championships at the Indianapolis IUPUI Natatorium on Saturday. Fellow alum Kevin Clements and current freshman Daniel Slocki also had solid final days.

Ciarla, who had qualified as the eighth seed with a time of 23.22, jumped up four spots as he improved his time by .35 seconds. Clements also swam in a championship final as his time of 2:03.58 in the 200m individual medley placed him fifth. Current Tiger Daniel Slocki also closed out the final day with solid race, stopping the clock in the 1500m free in a time of 16:02.13, which is not only a personal best, but the fifth-best Auburn time in the event.

With the championships over, the attention will turn to the Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool, which will be contested Sunday afternoon beginning at 2 p.m. CT. Auburn Coach David Marsh is the head coach for the men’s team which features AU swimmers Clements, Dave Denniston, Bryce Hunt, Scott Tucker and Ryan Wochomurka. Maggie Bowen and Margaret Hoelzer will also swim in the Duel in the Pool.
