AUBURN - Six Auburn swimmers were named to the 2008 SEC Swimming and Diving All-Freshman Team on Friday, following their performances last month at the SEC Championships.
The team honors the top freshman finisher in each event at the SEC Championships. Erica Meissner, Melanie Roberts and Josefin Wede represented Auburn on the women's team while Andrew Mitchell, Kohlton Norys and Adam Klein made the men's team.
Auburn and Georgia tied with the most individual on the women's team with three each, Tennessee followed with two. Auburn led on the men's side with three Tigers on the team with Georgia and Tennessee following with two each.
Meissner, a native of Ashburnham, Mass., earned her way onto the team by finishing sixth in the 200 back at SECs with a time of 1:56.10. At the time, her time of 1:56.07 in preliminaries ranked ninth all-time at Auburn.
Roberts, a native of Rochester, N.Y., made her way on the team by finishing sixth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.17.
Wede rounds out Auburn's representation on the women's All-Freshman Team as she finished third in the 200 breast at the SEC Championships. The native of Landskrona, Sweden, clocked a 2:13.33 in the 200 breast prelims, a time that found itself ranked eighth all-time at Auburn.
On the men's team, Norys led the way for the Tigers as he earned All-Freshman Team honors in two events. The native of Visalia, Calif., finished third in the 100 back with a time of 47.36 and followed it up with a fourth-place showing in the 200 back, clocking a 1:44.25.
Klein, a native of New Orleans, posted Auburn's top finish among the freshmen as he came in second in the 200 breast with a time of 1:56.72. Following the SEC Championships, Klein's time ranked sixth all-time at Auburn.
The final Tiger on the team is Mitchell, a native of Nashville, Tenn. Mitchell finished fifth in the 200 IM, touching in at 1:47.11 to give Auburn its best finish in the event since 2006.
After sweeping the SEC Championships, the Tigers went on to the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships where the women finished second and the men came in fifth.
