April 3, 2003
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Former Auburn swimmer Scott Tucker won the men’s 100m freestyle with a time of 49.43 while current AU sophomore Ryan Wochomurka placed fourth in a time of 50.09 as the competition continued at the ConocoPhillips National Swimming Championships at the IUPUI Indianapolis Natatorium on Wednesday.
Tucker won the event ahead of fellow Olympians and Mutual of Omaha Duel in the Pool team members Neil Walker (49.49) and Jason Lezak (49.49).
“I’m basically using this for a warm-up for Sunday (Duel in the Pool),” Tucker said. “I just dug down for the last 50 meters and got my hand on the wall. My time wasn’t that fast, but I can’t really complain after a first place.”
The competition continues on Thursday with the 200m freestyle, the 400m individual medley and the 400m freestyle relay.
