MONTREAL, Canada - Auburn's Pascal Wollach opened the 2008 Canadian Olympic Trials by finishing ninth in the 100m backstroke on Wednesday night.
The six-day Olympic-qualifying meet is taking place at the Olympic pool in Montreal, Quebec.
Wollach, a sophomore from Calgary, won the consolation final of the 100m back with a time of 57.27 to finish ninth overall in the event. He advanced to the finals after clocking a 57.21 in preliminaries.
The 100 back is the first of three events Wollach is slated to compete in. He is also scheduled to swim in the 100m freestyle on Friday and the 200m backstroke on Saturday.
