AUBURN, Ala. – Auburn senior swimmer Peter Haas has been named to the SEC Swimming and Diving Community Service Team, the league office announced on Friday.
Haas, a native of Dunwoody, Ga., is a four-year letterwinner for the Tigers and serves as the team’s representative on Auburn’s Student Athletic Advisory Committee. Haas has served as Auburn SAAC’s social media coordinator and secretary. During his time at Auburn, the senior has volunteered at local food backs and homes for the under-privileged homes. He has also participated in local food drives and also visited once a month at local hospital.
This past summer, Hass volunteered with the Marine Corps Law Enforcement Foundation, developing a fundraiser that raised over $10,000 by hosting a local swim-a-thon. The campaign benefited the children of fallen American service members. Haas also been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll.
Haas and his teammates helped organize Auburn’s October intrasquad meet that benefited Swim for MS. The Tigers divided into two teams and raised over $25,000 in honor of Trudi Hawke, wife of Auburn head coach Brett Hawke.
The SEC sponsors Community Service Teams for all league sports. The SEC Community Service Team looks to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to his community in superior service efforts.
Auburn returns to competition at the 2014 SEC Swimming and Diving Championships in Athens, Ga. on Tuesday, Feb. 18. The five-day meet runs through Saturday, Feb. 22 at the University of Georgia’s Gabrielsen Natatorium.
