Pair Of Auburn Swimmers Honored By SEC

Jan. 26, 2010

AUBURN, Ala. - Junior Adam Brown and freshman Stuart Ferguson were named SEC Male Swimmer of the Week and SEC Male Freshman of the Week, respectively, the league office announced Tuesday. The honor is Brown's second of the season and a first for Ferguson.

Brown had another outstanding dual meet, picking up three first-place finishes and one runner-up for the No. 5 Tigers in their 162-138 loss at No. 6 Florida on Jan. 22. The Cambridge, England, native opened the meet as anchor for the first-place finishing 200 medley relay that touched the wall in a NCAA "B" time of 1:27.07.

Brown followed with back-to-back top finishes in the 50 and 100 free events. His time of 43.23 in the 100 free marked a career-best and is the second-fastest time in the country, while his time of 19.79 in the 50 free was also career-best and is the sixth-fastest time nationally. He closed out the meet as lead off for the 400 free relay that finished in a tight second, just .32 seconds from Florida's first-place finishing squad.

Ferguson put together a pair of career-best swims to be another leader for the Tigers against Florida. The Richmond, Va., product recorded his first collegiate win in the 100 breast after finishing in a career-best time of 55.15. It also marked his first-ever NCAA "B" cut time. Ferguson followed with a second-place finish in the 200 breast in another career-best time of 2:02.06. His time in the 100 breast ranks third in the SEC, while his 200 breast time is ninth in the conference.

The Tigers close out the regular season with a dual against Emory at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center on Feb. 6. Auburn will pay tribute to its 13 seniors prior to the 11 a.m. meet.
