    Jan. 12, 2010

AUBURN, Ala. - Junior Adam Brown and sophomore Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace were tabbed SEC Male and Female Swimmers of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. The honors mark the first weekly award for both Brown and Vanderpool-Wallace.

Competing in his first collegiate meet after having to sit out last year and the first part of the 2009-10 season, Brown came out blazing and put together top performances for the Tigers. Against the top-ranked Texas men on Thursday, Brown anchored the 400 medley relay that edged out the Longhorns and won the event in a NCAA "B" time of 3:13.44. He picked up his first collegiate individual B time with a second-place finish in the 50 free in a time of 19.93. Brown recorded the SEC's second-fastest time in the 100 free (43.80) as the leadoff leg of the 400 free relay that took second.

On Saturday, Brown recorded four first-place finishes for Auburn against Texas A&M. He picked up his first win in the 50 free in a season-best and conference-best time of 19.85, while also winning the 100 fly in a B time of 48.23. Brown swam the fly leg of the 200 medley relay squad that won in 1:28.67 and closed out the day as the anchor of the 200 free relay that touched first in 1:24.74.

Brown's time of 19.85 in the 50 free places him sixth in the country, while his 100 free time of 43.80 is seventh.

Vanderpool-Wallace tallied three top finishes after a very busy weekend. Against the fifth-ranked Texas, she won the 50 free in 23.96 and finished third in the 100 free in 50.08. Vanderpool-Wallace recorded her second-consecutive win in the 50 free during Auburn's tri-meet with Texas A&M and SMU, finishing in a season-best time of 23.10. She swam anchor for the 400 free relay that finished first in a B time of 3:21.91, while swimming the fly leg of the second-place 200 medley relay (1:41.84). She was also runner-up in the 100 fly in 55.02.

The Tigers take a couple weeks off from competition before returning to the pool on Jan. 22 when Auburn travels to SEC rival Florida for a 4 p.m. dual.
