Auburn All-American divers Dan Mazzaferro and Kelly Marx finished first and second, respectively, on the men's platform Saturday at the Auburn Diving Invitational at the James E. Martin Aquatic Center.
"Platform was outstanding for us today," diving coach Jeff Shaffer said. "Anytime you score over 400, it's a good meet. Kelly was able to get second and performed a new dive for the first time. He and Dan are where they need to be for SEC and NCAA. Scott [Morgan] was impressive on the tower today."
Mazzaferro tallied a 425.95 en route to the platform title and Marx scored a 398.95 for runner-up honors. Morgan, the Tigers third platform diver, finished fourth with a 325.05. All three diver's scores were NCAA Zone qualifying.
Freshmen Anna Aguero and Vanessa Dantin placed third and fourth, respectively, on the women's side. Aguero scored a 243.75 and Dantin posted a 241.70, both zone-qualifying scores.
"On the women's side, it was good to see Vanessa to get a zone-qualifying score," Shaffer said. "She needs to focus on her dives, work on being consistent and perfect her skills.
"This meet was good for us," Shaffer continued. "We want to compete against teams when they're at their best and when we're at our best. This was a successful competition on all levels. It's important that we were diving against SEC opponents Alabama and LSU because we are able to measure our progress and where we ourselves are."
Auburn divers will be back in action Jan. 3-5, at the Tennessee Diving Invitational in Knoxville, Tenn.
