GREENSBORO, N.C. - Junior Fraser McKean and senior John Santeiu IV locked up spots for the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships later this month with their performances on tower Wednesday at the Greensboro Aquatics Center.
On the final day of competition, McKean posted a score of 781.95 to take second overall on platform, earning a priority qualifying spot to the NCAA Championships. McKean's prelim six-dive list of 396.75 set a personal best during the morning session; the junior will make his first appearance at NCAAs in Austin, Texas on March 27-29.
Santeiu's fourth-place finish on Wednesday only improved his chances to earn a spot at the NCAA Championships. The senior scored 749.10 over 12 dives and his six-dive list in the finals set a personal record at 407.95. Santeiu's fifth-place finish in Tuesday's 1-meter competition is what put the senior over the top to earn a spot at the NCAA Championships, his third career appearance overall.
On the women's side, Shanna Schuelein led the way for the Tigers in her first appearaonce at Zones on tower, finishing eighth overall with a 10-dive list of 489.90. Junior Cinzia Calabretta placed ninth overall in her best finish on the platform at the Zone B meet as well, scoring 482.60. Morgan Mullins finished 15th overall in the competition, scoring 217.65 in the prelims.
The women's NCAA Championships run March 21-23 at the University Aquatics center in Minneapolis, Minnesota and the Tigers will send 11 to compete at the event. The NCAA Men's Championships are set for March 27-29 at the Lee and Joe Jamail Aquatics Center in Austin, Texas. The full list of men's qualifiers will be released later Wednesday.
