ATHENS, Ga. - Auburn's Kelly Marx and Dan Mazzaferro finished off the Georgia Diving Invitational the right way Saturday, taking the top two spots on the platform.
"Overall, this was a very successful meet for us," said head diving coach Jeff Shaffer. "We continue to push and work hard on the corrections that we observed during this competition."
Marx posted a score of 364.55 to take the win. The sophomore posted a runner-up finish on the 3-meter and a sixth-place finish on the 1-meter.
Mazzaferro followed right behind Marx, finishing second in the event with a 340.75. The finish was the best of the meet for Mazzaferro as he came in fifth on the 1-meter and eighth on the 3-meter.
Also competing for the Tigers was Scott Morgan. The junior finished ninth out of the 20-diver field.
"I am very pleased that Kelly continues to improve and be consistent on his new 10-meter dives that he has learned," said Shaffer. "Dan was a little off but had the highest scoring dive on the second dive. I'm also very pleased with Scott, just have to work on cleaning up his entries now."
Other teams competing at the three-day event were Georgia, Pitt, Purdue, LSU, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Florida, Drexel, Kentucky, SMU, Penn State, East Carolina and Arkansas.
The Auburn swimming and diving teams return to action on Thursday, Jan. 10 with a dual meet at Texas.
