AUBURN UNIVERSITY SPORTS MEDICINE
INTERNSHIP ATHLETIC TRAINING POSITION

The Auburn University Athletic Training Internship is geared toward collegiate senior level student athletic trainers who are looking to complete their current athletic training curriculum by gaining experience in a Division I collegiate sport setting. Intern Student Athletic Trainers will be assigned to a specific team for the duration of their internship, but will be asked to assist with all 16 of our NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletic teams. Interns are responsible for the care and prevention of injuries for their assigned sports team and will maintain communication with Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainers, Staff Athletic Trainers, coaches, athletic department personnel, parents, team physicians and other medical specialists involved with the care of the athlete. Other duties would include training room coverage and management, updating medical and personnel files, and helping to improve the overall quality of the sports medicine program and facilities.

In addition to your athletic training responsibilities, you are encouraged to progress towards your National Athletic Trainers Association Certification. Along with the experience you will gain working with an aggressive sports medicine program, you will have access to the knowledge of many Certified Athletic Trainers to help prepare you for the certification exam. Monthly inservices will also be provided on recent sports medicine topics to you and our staff.

Our sports medicine staff is composed of athletic trainers, team physicians, a clinical psychologist, and a nutritionist. We have a philosophy that is centered around sports medicine, but want to have a broad base of contributing "thinkers" in developing our program. We expect you to have input and involvement, and when choices or decisions are made we expect your input in carrying out the team approach to a problem.

We consider our student intern personnel as extremely knowledgeable individuals preparing themselves to enter the field of Athletic Training. With the assistance of our full-time staff our intern student athletic trainers will have an opportunity to learn about the medical care of student athletes at the Division I level, the administration of a medical system team, and business aspects in athletic training and sports medicine. Through this process we hope to better prepare you for the next step in your career as an athletic trainer.
