Let the games begin!!! The Rio Olympic Games are now open and we are ready here in team Brazil! First day of racing is only hours away now.
It was a very exciting day to be around the village. We started early today around 9am because the venues closed at midday because of the opening ceremony. They needed every bus on hand to get athletes, officials, and dignitaries to the stadium at 6pm. It was so fun to watch everybody getting dressed up.
I did get to see an informal game of tennis today by the number one player in the world, Novak Djokovic. He was playing a few sets for a small crowd in the Olympic village around lunch time. Very cool to watch! I posted a short video of it on my Instagram @hawkebr.
Every country is represented here and every one of them have their own native dress or something that symbolizes their heritage.
The Brazilian swim team decided not to attend the opening ceremony with competition starting in the morning. So we all sat around a giant tv together and we just as amazed as you all were. Very spectacular. I could see a lot of proud Brazilians as the show concluded. Having been through my own home Olympics in Sydney in 2000 I know how special this is for all the Brazilians. It's definitely giving them a huge sense of pride!
I can't wait for the swimming to start tomorrow.!
