We set out from Atlanta to São Paulo last night in the first step of our journey to the 2016 Rio Olympics. The flight was 10 hours straight, so just enough time for a movie and 5hrs of sleeping, plus a couple of meals in between. If someone from Delta is reading this, please give us some more leg room in economy, it's not athlete (or coach) friendly!
However the pilot did a fantastic job of getting us to the destination safely.
It was an overnight flight which got us in to Brazil around 9am. We were picked up by a welcoming committee and shuttled off to our hotel where we will spend the next 10 days in camp before heading into Rio.
It feels really special to be in the home team for this Olympics, you can tell the country is really behind us. Everybody is so friendly and excited for the games!
We had our first official team meeting, which consisted of an introduction into some new technology that we will be using for the late finals session. Here at the games the preliminaries will start at 1pm for swimming, and finals start at 10pm. So the Brazilian team will have the athletes wearing sunglasses that project light into their eyes. They will put them on when the sun goes down to keep the body awake enough to ensure they are ready to compete late into the night. Bruno is modeling them in one of the photos.
Anyway, time for bed on the first night of pre-Olympic camp. It's after midnight and I need sleep!
