AUBURN, Ala. - From orientation to graduation, resumes to retirement, Auburn Athletics' new student-athlete experiential learning and internship program, AUBURNYOU, seeks to serve student-athletes before, during and after their time on the Plains.
"Our vision and mission to be the best school for the best athletes involves positioning our student-athletes to succeed while on campus and throughout their careers after they leave," Director of Athletics Jay Jacobs said. "AUBURNYOU takes all of the programs we offer and places them in one easy-to-use location."
With programs and services designed for prospective, current and alumni student-athletes, the website AUBURNYOU.com guides users through each stage.
Prospective student-athletes and parents can navigate the recruiting process with information on academics and compliance.
For current student-athletes, there are links to leadership, career and personal development, and most importantly, internship opportunities.
Alumni student-athletes can stay connected with former teammates, access career networks, and give back to their alma mater by providing internships or joining Tigers Unlimited.
"AUBURNYOU is a one-stop shop, a landing spot, to engage and support our student-athletes: future, present and past," said Dr. Bernard Hill, Senior Associate Athletics Director. "We want them to maximize their time at Auburn so they can leave as the best version of themselves."
To do that, Hill says, Auburn offers everything from mock job interviews to assistance with resume writing, instruction on etiquette and how to dress for success.
"AUBURNYOU puts everything under one umbrella," Hill said. "We're here to help, both now and 20 years from now."
For Jacobs, a former walk-on offensive lineman who started on Auburn's 1983 SEC Championship team, AUBURNYOU resonates personally.
"I love college athletics," Jacobs said. "I care deeply about student-athlete welfare. I have devoted my entire career to ensuring our student-athletes live a better life because of their time at Auburn. I know first-hand that the value of their college athletics experience will last a lifetime.
"My greatest hope is that each of our student-athletes will take full advantage of their time at Auburn University to grow mentally, physically, and spiritually. We are here to serve, to help make them great on and off the field of play. We are here to help make their dreams come true."
